Henderson Girls' Brigade

Welcome to Henderson Secondary School! You have made the right choice by coming to the school with one of the best principals, teachers and CCA program in Singapore. There are many CCAs offered in this school and The Girls' Brigade (GB) is one of them.

I am a volunteer with the school and was not in GB when I was in Secondary school. However, on looking back, I really wished my school then offered GB and that I did join GB then. The main reasons will be that firstly, I can try out many different activities ranging from indoor activities like make-up to outdoor activities like rock climbing. Secondly, I get a chance to be a leader in one way or other because GB's motto is "Making every girl a servant leader". Thirdly, there are many supportive teachers and volunteers who are there to guide us.

Last but not least, GB feels like a family because we learn to serve one another in love. We hope you will join our family too!

Cheers,
Miss Cindy Tan
Captain of 61st GB Company

GB Camp ’15

Underwater World

On 27th March 2015, the 61ST COY GB and the 1ST GG COY went for a 2D1N camp at the Underwater World Sentosa. It was a valuable experience where we learnt interesting information about Marine life - Pink Dolphins do not actually have pink skin! In addition, sharks are NOT harmful to humans more like we are harmful to them. Sharks have numerous teeth – even when they lose their teeth, they would grow again.

During our time at the Underwater World we had: scrumptious food and activities such as Amazing Race which made us bond together with the GG girls. Lastly we summed up the camp by watching the Dolphin & Sea Lion show. It was an unforgettable and unique experience which will be with throughout our lives

GB Friendship Day

The GB friendship is organised every year, it is to help those lower income residents in Singapore . It was either we do a game stall or a food stall. We were chosed to do a food stall and we bought many kuehs like curry puffs, ondeh ondeh, those that Singaporeans love to eat! Although our food arrived about an hour late, we managed to do our best. Our company GB 61st , gave away free food to the residents and help put a smile on their face. The girls were very polite and although there was unbearable heat , the girls still endured it and thankfully our hardwork paid off as we managed to sell all the food in our stall. We were shocked as some of us did not expect that to happen but all of us were very elated . The event also helped us strengthen our bonds and create lasting memories. It also taught us teamwork as well because without everyone's effort and cooperation we would not have managed to sell all our food. This is what we call teamwork. We would like to Thank the teachers for helping us organize everything and enduring the heat and it is greatly appreciated! It was an amazing experience to bond with the community, and we enjoyed ourselves. :)

GB Drill Competition

GB Drill Competition '14

The preparations to the competition was a long 6 months.

Firstly we were trained by the alumnis' to master all our drills.

Girls from the age 14-16 took part in the pioneer drill competition. We girls managed to complete all our drill stages test 1-3 within these 6months of training for the competition.

Energetically & enthusiastically managed through the tough training with blood and sweat.

It was a long journey with ups and downs tears, anger, smiles, laughter and many other

undescribable emotions we girls have felt.We are also thankful for the seniors who came down

On the day of the drill competition ,we were nervous we feared facing the challenges ahead of

us but with much confidence and through all those harship we managed to pull ourselves to

work together as a company. We gave our best in the competition & though we only recieved a COP(Certificate Of Participation),we are very proud of

ourselves for managing it through all those days. The memories mean more than the results

sometimes. We had the most enjoyable moments & the most amazing memories that can never be erased.

Thanks to drill competition & the girls perservering energy the 61

the competion.

regularly to help with the formations, the song idea and perfecting our drills.

61st coy are proud to say we

know our drills at the tip of our fingers:)

GB Speech Day

Before the speech day, there were rehearsals for speech day and our drill competition, so there was quite a number of clashes between the programmes, but we managed to get through it.
As for speech day, on the day itself we had to stand in the parade square for about half an hour waiting for the guest of honour to arrive before we could begin our march-off.
We felt tired when rehearsing for speech day, and even after speech day rehearsal ends, we had to practise our drills for drill competition, but luckily for us, we managed to master the drills needed for speech day, and it went smoothly as planned.:)

Chinese New Year 2014

On the Chinese New Year celebrating week, we decided to give some mandarin / oranges to the neighbourhood behind our school. (Thanks to the teachers and also the girls who helped bought the oranges!) We also made some colourful cards to hand it to the neighbourhood people. We went out during our school hours. We split ourselves into our squads and went to a few blocks to give away those oranges! We do not expect any red packet in return. Personally for my squad, we went to the top floor and down a floor every time we finished a row of homes. In the morning, the people who work would probably have left their homes. But there was still some elderly who were resting at home.

We were glad most of the elderly accepted our greetings and took in the oranges! :) Overall, it was really fun and a good experience for all of us to show some love to the community. The elderly was very grateful and had big smiles on their faces. It feels really great to see we made someone's day. :)

Giving out oranges!

smiles :)

GB Day

Girls Brigade Day, a special event for all GB girls. It was a memorable day for us. I remembered we stood proudly at the parade square as we commenced Girls Brigade Day. We only had a few practices for the parade, but I feel that we did well. On GB Day, we were to remain in our uniforms for the rest of the time while we were in school. I feel that this was a good practice to let us be proud, united, and recognized as one.

However we couldn't celebrate it on the day itself as we had some events followed up by the school. It still felt great to see Po (our previous company leader) present to Ms Ho the Sustained Gold Achievement Award. I believed we have achieved GOLD for 6 years in a row. Incredible, isn't it?

Below we have a picture with our 61st company! Hehe, our signature pose for every group photo!

BBQ with the girls!

On 17 January 2014, the company has organized a BBQ dinner for the girls who are participating in the upcoming National Drill Competition which will take place on 15 March. The objective of this dinner is to forge stronger friendship and fellowship over a meal.

We had fun at the BBQ dinner at our VAL officer, Mdm Charmaine's place at Bangkit Road. Here are some of the pictures taken, compiled into collages for better facilitation.

Featuring our previous company leader, Siti!

Cheerleading performance for the Combined Uniformed Groups (UG) Campfire 2013

On 20th September 2013, Friday, 5 Sec 3 girls were selected to perform for the combined Uniformed Groups (UG) campfire 2013 that was organized for the Sec 4 and 5 students in the evening.

We had to select a type of performance to perform, which were singing, dancing and drills.
We originally had planned to select drills but because there were other UG CCAs who would be performing drills, we decided to do cheerleading since we've gotten a silver award for it.

Though we faced many challenges such as the need for more dance steps to fill out the entire song, teaching an unexperienced member the cheerleading steps, limited time (one week) to practice, etc we managed to overcome these and presented a brilliant performance.

Here are some of the pictures that were taken on that day!

The cheerleading girls! (sans Po because she was emcee-ing the campfire)

Unfortunately we didn't get any solo shots from Po, our current Captain Leader (CL) because she was involved in being the emcee of the campfire. However we will get to see her in some of the later photos that will be posted here!

Like what I've mentioned earlier, we managed to carry out our performances smoothly and we even got prizes!

With the teachers Mrs Soong and Ms Lee!

After the campfire ended, we took pictures of some of the Sec 4 seniors with the teachers.

Hope they had fun last Friday and we wish the Sec4s and 5s good luck in their upcoming O's!
